With a history extending back a millennium, the bazaars of the Muslim world were the super ports of their time. Utilizing an extensive network of trading routes, these Muslim caravans and ships connected Western Europe to the Middle East, the Middle East to China along the fabled silk road, and China to the Spice Islands of current-day Indonesia. Muslim traders and bazaars were but one factor in the peaceful spread of Islam during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
As you tour our faux bazaar, just for a moment imagine yourself a Venetian trader onboard a great sailing ship, as you sail through the Spice Islands on your way back to Venice, the hull overflowing with such treasures as pepper, cinnamon, silk, ginger, and cloves.
Culinary Delights Of The Muslim World
Partake of the culinary delicacies of 1.9 billion Muslims around the world:
- Pita bread from the Middle East and paratha from the Sub-Continent;
- Spinach bourkas from Turkey and Uighur scallion pancakes from China;
- Lebanese kebab and meat satay, the national meal of Indonesia;
- Lamb tagine from Morocco to slow-cooked biryani from India; and
- The heavenly sweet k’naffeh from Palestine to pandan balls from Malaysia.
