Keynote: Precious Rasheeda

Precious Rasheeda Muhammad established herself as an authority on the history of Islam in America, especially with regard to the African American community. At Harvard, she worked tirelessly with the Department of African and African American Studies and the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research to organize film series, exhibitions, and conferences on American Islam. A researcher who recovered a major autobiographical text and a natural teacher, Precious Muhammad is a rising star in a field which will only grow more important in the 21st century.

Performance: Nimat

Unique, soulful, and original, Nimat is an incredible writer whose powerful messages and rich vocals have transcended the limitation of category. Since the tender age of twelve Nimat has written hundreds of reflections and songs. She has also worked in various music studios as a writer for up-and-coming artists in the Maryland, D.C. metropolitan area and is an active inspirational speaker on human excellence. Although influenced by pioneers such as Nina Simone, Malcolm X, Bob Marley, Warith Deen Muhammad and Tracey Chapman, Nimat attributes much of her expression to her intense study of language and social sciences as well as an unwavering drive to use her gift as a contribution in the race toward "all that is good," as she would put it.
"We are committed to presenting a festival whose performers and organizers are as racially and ethnically diverse as the great metropolis they call home. And as a consequence of this goal of diversity, all events at the Festival will be available without tickets, so that all who visit one of the many Festival venues can do so for free."
We firmly believe this festival can make a positive impact on interfaith understanding, especially in a region founded upon the creed of religious tolerance. By celebrating our cultural differences, the festival challenges the purveyors of bigotry and hate, and seeks to strengthen the bonds between different communities of faith by fostering mutual understanding across religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Your sponsorship will demonstrate your commitment to these ideals.  Your support will make this festival and all the events associated with it free-of-charge and open to the public.
