All Events postponed to 2024.

Festival Supporters and Major Sponsors

Imagine an arts and culture festival with performances by over 40 Muslim artists in over a dozen diverse musical styles, including:
  • Indian classical/folk music on sitar, tabla, and vocal.
  • The pulsating beat of flamenco from Andalusia/Spain.
  • The powerful rhythms of the largest African American dance and drum ensembles in the U.S.
  • Oud and drum music from the Arab world.
  • The music of young Black rappers who are attempting to merge an Islamic sensibility with hip-hop culture.
  • Exotic Maqam music of the Uyghur Muslims of Western China and East Turkistan.
All these performances and more will be presented at the Philadelphia Muslim Communities Arts and Culture Festival, running from February 1, 2023 to October 8, 2023, with the historic participation of eight universities and colleges in the Greater Delaware Valley.

Once a month during this time period, the Festival will present a musical performance at a local educational institution, paired with an illuminating lecture on themes around Islam and Islamic arts presented by expert Islamic studies scholars.

Additional Festival highlights will include:

  • Fun-filled workshops for kids, special workshops for teenagers and young adults, and “Know Your Rights” workshops for adults.
  • “The Athletes Hour,” a panel discussion with world-class Muslim athletes.
  • A “faux bazaar,” with crafts from around the Muslim world; and an International Muslim kitchen, with a great range of delicacies.
  • A gala concert of popular contemporary music by young Muslim artists will take place at Temple’s 10,000-seat Liacouras Center.
  • Finally, the Festival draws to a close with an international fashion exhibition displaying the designs of Muslim designers the world over.
The Philadelphia Muslim Communities Arts and Culture Festival is a celebration of the diversity and cultural richness of the Muslim population (numbering approximately 400,000) in the Greater Delaware Valley.

The Festival was conceived and is being organized by three Muslim organizations in Philadelphia who wanted to create an artistic challenge to the widespread bigotry metastasizing in our nation.

We firmly believe the Festival can make a positive impact on interfaith understanding, especially in a region founded upon the creed of religious tolerance. By celebrating our cultural differences, the festival will be challenging the purveyors of bigotry and hate and strengthening the bonds between different communities of faith by fostering mutual understanding across religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

The total cost of the multi-month festival is $500,000. With your support, we hope to make all events associated with the festival free-of-charge and open to the public.

"We are committed to presenting a festival whose performers and organizers are as racially and ethnically diverse as the great metropolis they call home. And as a consequence of this goal of diversity, all events at the Festival will be available without tickets, so that all who visit one of the many Festival venues can do so for free."
We firmly believe this festival can make a positive impact on interfaith understanding, especially in a region founded upon the creed of religious tolerance. By celebrating our cultural differences, the festival challenges the purveyors of bigotry and hate, and seeks to strengthen the bonds between different communities of faith by fostering mutual understanding across religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Your sponsorship will demonstrate your commitment to these ideals.  Your support will make this festival and all the events associated with it free-of-charge and open to the public.
